When temperatures decline to freezing or below, it becomes more difficult for the heat pump to pull heat from the cold air which forces the system to consume more energy through its operation.

Advancements in heat pump technology have improved the heat pump’s performance in cold weather. Today, modern heat pumps can work in sub zero temperatures. Some can perform in temperatures as cold as -10 degrees.
